Serenity Project - July 2018

Welcome to our Serenity Project for the month of July 2018. The Serenity project is a collaborative photography project in which we want to share images that convey peace and calm.

Since it is still very warm in Arizona, I have been retreating indoors to photograph. It has been hard for me to come up with unique images. However, my macro group keeps me inspired. I think I am the last one in our alumni group trying to shoot through a small copper pipe. It is actually fun (and challenging to say the least).

Imagination is more important that knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
— Albert Einstein

Here are my three favorite images from this little session. I love how the copper pipe implies movement. What do you think?

Serenity Project - February 2018

Welcome to our Serenity Project for the month of February 2018. The Serenity project is a collaborative photography project in which we want to share images that convey peace and calm.

There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.

I love working in my little "studio". I can manipulate the light from the window to my taste. Lately I have not only been drawn to back-light, but also to dappled light. This past weekend I photographed in my "studio" to work with the dappled light. And I also worked on a new technique for me: double exposure. Here are some images that are my favorites from the weekend...

Sunday - Shooting Through

In 2016 I was blessed to attend the Click Away Conference, which is hosted yearly by Clickin Moms. This year the conference is in Florida, however I am not able to attend the conference. Which makes me sad, because I won't be able to meet up with some of my favorite photographers like Nadeen Flynn, Jennifer Carr, Caroline Jensen, Tiffany Kelly, and so many others. It is good to talk about photography with women who understand your passion...

But I regress. Why I mentioned the conference is because at the 2016 conference, I fell in love with the Lensbaby Velvet 56. It took me another 10 months to finally purchase the lens. There are lenses out there that are just made for you; I believe the Lensbaby Velvet 56 is that for me. Since I purchased this lens, it probably is 85% on my camera body. Yes, I even shoot landscapes with it.

The greater part of happiness depends on our disposition not our circumstances.
— Martha Washington

For this week's Sunday Project, I wanted to get a little creative again. I wanted to shoot through some flowers to capture my subject. I love little daisies; they are fun and have a lot of character.

Serenity Project - July 2017

Welcome to our Serenity Project for the month of July 2017. The Serenity project is a collaborative photography project in which we want to share images that convey peace and calm.

β€œWe can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorns have roses.” Alphonse Karr

As it is still very warm outside here in Arizona, I have to photograph indoors. As I have stated before, it is not my favorite. However I am making the best of it. Surprisingly shooting indoors has opened up my eyes to see the light better and how it impacts my images. As a result I challenged myself to photograph the white roses in different ways by moving them around. Here is what I came up with with the same subject, three different ways. The three images have all been taken with the Lensbaby, Velvet 56.

Serenity Project - June 2017

Welcome to the Serenity Project for the month of June 2017. The Serenity project is a collaborative photography project in which we want to share images that convey peace and calm. "A Flower blossoms for its own joy" - Oscar Wilde

About three weeks ago, I purchased the Lensbaby Velvet 56. Up to this time, I have photographed my flowers with my macro lens. However, I have seen so many of my photography friends using the V56. Granted that it started to warm up here in Arizona when the lens arrived, I still had to try it out. On the day he lens arrived, I purchased some Peonies. At first, I took the flowers outside however I went immediately back inside due to the heat. With a large window in our laundry room, I believe I created some beautiful and serene images; and the light wasn't too shabby either. :)
