Serenity Project - January 2018

Welcome to our Serenity Project for the month of January 2018. The Serenity project is a collaborative photography project in which we want to share images that convey peace and calm.

"The Art of Macro Workshop" is in full swing at Clickin' Moms. This workshop has set me on a path of photography that is magical to me. The instructor, Tiffany Kelly, is not only an amazing teacher, but has also become a close friend over the past two years. If you ever want to learn macro photography, I cannot recommend this course enough. What is even more fun is that my dear friend, Eileen Critchley, is taken the workshop now, and I can watch her grow in this genre. My hope is that I will meet up with Eileen in person again, soon. She has become my biggest encourager, and more importantly my confidant.

So with all that I have learned and continue to grow, I was able to create some of my best macro images to-date (in my humble opinion) this past weekend. I purchased some irises at our local Trader Joe's. And here are the images that spoke to my heart; macro photography is truly my zen place.

Macro Monday ~ Volume 30

Welcome to Macro Monday ~ Volume 30. Until now, my macro photography consisted of flowers or pastry. However this weekend I was looking for something different. The current state of our backyard is not good; full of weeds. With this being the weeds gave a different subject to photograph this week: a honey bee. :) As soon as I saw that little critter moving toward one of the big weeds, my lens was on him.

Macro photography has become my own little place of peace. I don't have to drive somewhere to take the photographs. I can even wander out in to my backyard early in the morning. The soft morning light is amazing and I am thankful that my friend and mentor, Jennifer Carr, challenged me to seek different light.

Next time you find yourself in a rut, try something new. Take a photography workshop online, or a class at the location community college. Trust me, trying something new will get you out of a rut in no time. You may even find a new passion, like I did with macro photography.

Until next time, keep smiling :) ... Iris (TGTG)
