Sunday - German Poppy Coffee Cake

Yesterday, hubby and I made a trip to Phoenix to visit two German places. One is the only German butcher shop in the Valley (Germany Sausage Company), the other a German bakery (Old Heidelberg Bakery).  Not only can we get a taste of my home country at these two places, but I can speak German in these stores. You have no idea how much that means to me. You can take me out of Germany, but you can't take the German out of me.

What I mostly like though is that both places produce products without any preservatives. I was a little worried about that the bread would spike my hubby's blood sugar, but it didn't. So he too is enjoying some German food with me.

For today's Sunday project, I wanted to create an image of the German Poppy coffee cake I purchased at the bakery. The taste brought back so many beautiful memories from my childhood. The last time I had a slice of it was when I visited my mom in 2014 for her 75th birthday. The dishes I used in these images I purchased when I moved in to my first apartment in 1982 (I still like the design, but the coffee cup is a little too small these days).

Life is too short to say no to cake.

Serenity Project - March 2018

Welcome to our Serenity Project for the month of March 2018. The Serenity project is a collaborative photography project in which we want to share images that convey peace and calm.

If you have been following my work, my little studio has become my place of serenity. Over the last three months I have created more images than ever at the beginning of any given year. Ask my hubby; I spend a lot of time in that space.

One thing that I love photographing (pretty much since I started digital photography) is food or food related items. I do still struggle with styling my food, but I am getting there. My hope is that I will be able to sign up for Anna Christine Larson's Illuminate class, to get some tips on how to style me food better.

At any rate, this month I wanted to share with you what I created a couple weeks ago. When I grew up, Sunday afternoons were down times with coffee and cake. I miss that greatly. So, I created some images with some mini cupcakes and photos of my mom and sister to remember these Sunday afternoons.

Thank you for stopping by today; until next time, keep calm and find a space you can call you own to create some images.
