Telling a Story of Love & Joy

I love learning, that's for sure. One of the best places to learn more about the craft of photography is Clickin Moms. The community of photographers is amazing to me. I have taken so many breakouts (online education via the forum) that helped me grow in leaps and bounds. Currently I am enrolled in "A Story of Love and Joy: Capturing Connections in Lifestyle Newborn Photography". Oh.my.goodness, what a class Lisa TichanΓ© and Kelly Garvey have put together!!! If you are interested in lifestyle newborn photography, you have until July 22nd to get the class at a discounted price of $50. The material is amazing and packed full of information. Let me tell you what the breakout has done for me. I love, love newborn photography, but I have not advertised it much. Why? Because I am very uncomfortable posing newborns in baskets, buggies and the like. It is not that I don't like it, but for me, this is not my style. For me, it is all about connection. Lisa had an awesome quote in the breakout: "We are telling a story of a growing family; a story of love and joy." Wow - that quote made my heart skip a beat. Yes, yes, yes!!! That is how I feel about newborn photography.

So you are wondering what Lifestyle Newborn photography is? It is storytelling! It is not quiet documentary, but also not posed; so a mix of both. I have had the honor to photograph one of my friend's babies last year. Brenda and her family have been with me from the beginning and support my passion for photography. Last year, we had some ideas how to photograph Raegan, but it didn't turn out that way. We had props, but didn't end up using them. I just wanted to tell their story as a growing family, and it was the best decision I have ever made. Here are some photos from the session that I absolutely adore.

Brenda and I were talking about the session when I mentioned to her about the class I am taking. She said that she was happy I changed course during the session. Which made me smile from ear-to-ear. This class has given me permission to handle newborn sessions my way: without props and big fuss about posing. I want to tell a story of love & joy. May I tell your story of your growing family? I am looking forward hearing from you. You can simply email me at iris@irisnelsonphotography.com and I will get to you within 24 hours with more details.

Thank you for stopping by - until next time,

Iris :) (TGTG)
