Sunday - Lite Lunch

As the days are getting hotter, I always like to find things that are good, yet lite, for lunch. One of my favorite lunches (or even supper for that matter), is mozzarella with tomatoes, fresh basil, Balsamic vinegar, olive oil, onions, and black pepper. And please don't forget a crusty baked roll (this one is a Bolillo roll, which is very common here in the Southwest).

I enjoy using my slate plate; after I photographed this light lunch, I was able to eat off that plate. What are your favorite light lunches? Please share, maybe I can find something new to try for the summer months.

Thank you for stopping by today - until next time, enjoy a light lunch.

Sunday - German Poppy Coffee Cake

Yesterday, hubby and I made a trip to Phoenix to visit two German places. One is the only German butcher shop in the Valley (Germany Sausage Company), the other a German bakery (Old Heidelberg Bakery).  Not only can we get a taste of my home country at these two places, but I can speak German in these stores. You have no idea how much that means to me. You can take me out of Germany, but you can't take the German out of me.

What I mostly like though is that both places produce products without any preservatives. I was a little worried about that the bread would spike my hubby's blood sugar, but it didn't. So he too is enjoying some German food with me.

For today's Sunday project, I wanted to create an image of the German Poppy coffee cake I purchased at the bakery. The taste brought back so many beautiful memories from my childhood. The last time I had a slice of it was when I visited my mom in 2014 for her 75th birthday. The dishes I used in these images I purchased when I moved in to my first apartment in 1982 (I still like the design, but the coffee cup is a little too small these days).

Life is too short to say no to cake.

Sunday - Water & Oil

Today's Sunday post has a dual purpose. Of course I continue to photograph for our Sunday Project, but I also wanted to share about my macro journey.

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.
— Thomas Merton

The quote by Thomas Merton is so true for me when it comes to macro photography. I can work on macro for hours; it helps me to forget the stress of the week at work. Macro photography has become my zen-place.

I started the macro journey in 2016; I enjoy to learn and be more creative. Don't get me wrong, I love photographing flowers with water-droplets. However, I wanted to push myself more, so I signed up for the Macro Masterclass Membership, hosted by the fabulous Tiffany Kelly.

In our first month of the class, Tiffany challenged up to think outside the 'water box'. For the last couple of weeks I tried to create images with bubbles; without success at this point. I still have to think that one through.

This weekend I worked for the first time with water & oil (inspired by one of my class mates). I tell you one thing: IT IS ADDICTIVE. I couldn't stop chasing the oil on the water. To create the below images, I used warm water with a couple of drops of EVOO. Underneath the water-bowl I laid one of my macro flower images to get some color in the images.

Here are my 3 favorite images from this weekend:

Sunday - Hummus & Wine

One of the first images I have taken with my dSLR's in 2007 was a food image. I have always been drawn to food photography. Till this day, it is one of my happy places, besides macro photography.

Wine is like sunlight held together by water.
— Galileo Galilei

I had a different image in mind at first today, but everything that I had tried didn't look good. So I sat thinking about what I could create with the things I had at home. Here are two of the images I really liked from this afternoon (and no, I didn't drink the wine at 4pm...I waited until dinner). Included in these images are:

  1. Town House Pita Crackers - Sea Salt
  2. Boar's Head White Bean Tuscan Hummus
  3. Belleruche Rose

It was fun to create these images for the Sunday Group Project. I also enjoy working with the Medium flat lay boards; I am looking forward to adding more over the next couple of months to my collection.

Thank you for stopping by today...until next time - stay creative with the things you have at home.

Sunday - Faith

I usually don't share images of my faith on my website. However, for our Sunday Group project this week it was fitting, since today is Psalm Sunday. And to be honest, I think that people should know a little more about the person (me) behind the camera. My faith is not only a belief system, but my way of life.

Faith cannot be inherited or gained by being baptized into a Church. Faith is a matter between the individual and God.
— Martin Luther

Many years ago when I started my photography journey, one reason was to share images on my personal blog and our devotional site. I didn't want to rely on having to purchase stock images. I no longer write on my personal blog, but I do still share images on our devotional site.

Today I created this image in my little studio. The cross was a gift from a Pastor I worked for. He gave it to me after one of his trips to Israel. I like it because it is simple.
