2017 Favorite Macro Images - Considering Light

In 2017, I really wanted to hone in on my macro photography. Macro photography is a place of zen for me. It makes me slow down; it clears my mind and it is a great stress reducer. I have also worked on using light in different ways; not only photographing in harsh/strong light, but soft and directional light

I am so grateful to my macro teacher/instructor and friend, Tiffany Kelly of Tiffany Kelly Photography, to be patient with me. I cannot believe that I took her workshop almost 2 years ago. It was one of the best investments I have made for myself.

There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.

So, here are my 17 favorite macro images, from 2017.  The images have been taken either with my Tamron 90mm Macro Lens or my Lensbaby Velvet 56 "Lucille".

Serenity Project - August 2017

Welcome to our Serenity Project for the month of August 2017. The Serenity project is a collaborative photography project in which we want to share images that convey peace and calm.

"The skies and land are so enormous, and the detail so precise and exquisite that wherever you are you are isolated in a glowing world between the macro and the micro." ~ Ansel Adams

Since it is still very warm in Arizona, and I don't want to put my equipment in jeopardy, I am learning to shoot indoors. However, shooting indoors has taught me where the best light is in my house. I usually do not pay that much attention to the light in the home because I love to be outdoors. With this being said the light in our laundry room is better good for macro photography; who knew.

Here are the images I captured of a beautiful, tri-colored rose. This time I chose to photograph with my Tamron, 90mm macro lens, with different depths/close-ups.

Follow the circle to see what my wonderful and talented photography friend Kathy Roberts, of Kathleen Roberts Photography. Kathy lives in the beautiful area of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. I always feel serenity when I visit her site featuring the beautiful area she lives in. Go check our her work for yourself.

Thank you for stopping by today; until next time, keep calm and smell the roses.

Macro Monday - Volume 35

Welcome to Macro Monday and can you believe it? Happy May!!! To be honest with you, I have no idea what happened to the first 4 months of 2017. I have shot more than ever before in 4 months. Not only have I photographed with my Lensbaby, but also with my macro lens. It continues to be my favorite genre since last year. This past week, I purchased some beautiful purple tulips. I wanted to get different looks, with the beautiful light coming in on our patio, I believe I have archived my goal.

For more beautiful macro images, please visit my amazing friend and macro teacher, Tiffany Kelly of Tiffany Kelly Photography. Also, if you are on Instagram, in May Tiffany is hosting an incredible challenge and giveaway.

Macro Monday - Volume 34

Welcome to Macro Monday - Volume 34. This week I wanted to mix up things a little bit. Instead of working with flowers, I photographed some yummy fruit tortes. These are my favorite from AJ's Fine Foods' bakery department, here in Mesa. I took several images of these divine treats, however these 4 are my favorites.

The above images have all been taken with my Tamron 90mm Macro lens.

Macro Monday - Volume 33

Welcome to Macro Monday - Volume 33. I just finished up the Visual Voice workshop with the amazing Caroline Jensen. I love her teaching and sweet spirit. I wish I could take a trip to Minnesota to visit with her for a couple of days. I believe that she has about 60 acres surrounding her property. I can listen to her all day. What this workshop taught me is that I am on the right track with my photography. As you all know, I love macro photography...and I love vivid colors. I hope to share more about the class in the weeks to come (after I process all the information). This week I purchased flowers that have vivid colors. I had such a great time working with these Mums (they are part of the Chrysanthemums family). Since Tiffany is talking about creative editing this week in her workshop, I thought I would share some creative edits with you. In fhe first edit I added a texture from the amazing Jan Tyler.

The second image I am sharing with you is only edited in Lightroom with a preset that I have created during my CCL workshop with Caroline Jensen (like I said, she is an amazing teacher)...
